Sarah and David lived in Ottumwa, IA and took in Sarah's sister, Lydia (who was a dwarf).*

The Randel Family Record 1780-1987 indicates a date of death of "8/1864" for Sarah, however this census* indicates she was alive and well in the White Oaks Township of Mahaska County, Iowa in 1880. 

Note that the birthplace of Sarah's parents (James Randel & Sarah Van Houten) are listed as "Mass."  This could be a vital clue to their origins??? (or just an error on the census)

*This information was provided by Dedee (Judith) Dalebout, great-great-granddaughter of Sarah Marie (and my 4th cousin).  Either Clara's b-date of 1858 or her age on this census (19) is incorrect, btw.  P.S. - can anyone read David's occupation from the census?
