Robert
R. Randel arrived in Iowa in 1845*.
Assuming Robert and family caravanned with James and Sarah (his parents) to Iowa
in 1845 - this means James and Sarah were well into their 60's when they made
the journey.
Note: see marriage to Mary Ratchett below. Try to find where they
were married*. If Robert arrived in 1845, then he and Mary were likely
already married (since they were married in early January, 1845). She
was probably born and married somewhere in NY. See if you can find
where she is buried and how she died? Did the trip kill her?
*Answer: According to the Mahaska County IAGenWeb Project website (http://iagenweb.org/mahaska/marr44.htm) Robert (age 29) married Mary A. Patchett (sic) (age 18) In Mahaska County, Iowa on 1/27/1845. Married by Wesley H. Freel (J.O.P.) in the home of W.P. Phalanx (could I make this up?).
Did Robert & Rachel have any kids?
Robert was 34 when
he married Miss Arnold.
Robert had been married
before - at the age 27 to a Mary Ratchett on 1/10/1845.
But Mary died the following year (11/1846) at the age of 20.
Rachel died in 1901 and is buried in Guide Rock, NE.
Robert died 7/28/1896 and is buried in Paola, KS.
